The Best Gift of All

Harry stared, disbelieving the sight as he tried to form the words to speak around the lump in his throat. Before him, put back together after it had crashed out from under him and Hagrid so long ago, was Sirius's motorbike.

He ran a hand over the shining chrome, the smooth leather seat then swung his leg over. He wrapped his hands around the grips and took a deep breath as he reached forward and turned the key.

The engine roared to life as Harry stomped down on the starter, and he grinned up at Arthur. "Thank you," he whispered.

Everyday Wonders
Harry tapped the bricks, three up and two across, on the wall behind the Leaky Cauldron. His heart jumped into his throat as the bricks folded in on themselves and revealed the beloved magical world beyond.

Diagon Alley: the hidden other land that still dazzled him as it had when he was eleven, and he couldn't help the zing of excitement that slithered across his skin while he stood there waiting for the opening to widen enough for him to enter. The noises, sights, and sounds surrounded Harry, and he grinned like a child as he stepped past the barrier.

Unwanted Attention

Harry spread his hands, listening to the speaker hail him a hero, and cringed. One would think he'd done the deed all by himself to hear the man boast about his accomplishments. He knew, however, there had been no god-like power imbued to his wand allowing him to kill Voldemort before being murdered first.

He'd been just a soldier, a tool, manipulated into position by Dumbledore. He closed his eyes, recalling all the others coerced into service. This too was expected of him, so he continued, vowing to do everything in his power to survive his new task: Auror Training.
